Professor J.S. Rajput is one of India’s most distinguished educationists and reform advocates, widely recognized for his pioneering contributions to teaching, curriculum, and policy. A physicist by training, he rose quickly through academia to become Principal of the Regional Institute of Education, Bhopal, and later served as Joint Educational Adviser to the Government of India. As the Founder-Chairman of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and Director of the NCERT (1999–2004), he spearheaded systemic reforms that modernized teacher training and strengthened curriculum design. His initiatives included the introduction of innovative two-year B.Ed. programmes and the regulation of correspondence education for quality assurance. Honoured with the Padma Shri and UNESCO’s Jan Amos Comenius Medal, Professor Rajput continues to inspire as an author, consultant, and policy advisor. His lifelong commitment reflects a vision of education as a tool for equity, innovation, and national progress. |
